Agha Shahid Ali's poetry and discussions of poetic form are among my favorites. Many years ago I read Adrienne Rich's Blue Ghazals, which had none of the form's distinguishing features. Intriguing poems, yes, but it wasn't until I read Shahid Ali's ghazals that I realized how powerful the form itself could be. Wonderful post.
